What Lies Ahead for Sean “Diddy” Combs?
Following a federal trial, a 12-member jury acquitted music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges—removing the possibility of a life sentence.
However, Combs was found guilty on two counts of violating the Mann Act, specifically for transporting individuals—including his former partner Cassie Ventura and another woman identified as “Jane”—across state lines for the purpose of engaging in prostitution.
Each conviction carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, meaning Combs could technically face up to 20 years behind bars. Initially, prosecutor Maurene Comey indicated the government would seek the full 20-year sentence, with each count served consecutively. But according to NBC News, prosecutors have since officially recommended a reduced sentence of 51 to 63 months (around four to five years).
Combs’ legal team, meanwhile, is asking for a lighter sentence ranging from 21 to 27 months. Any final sentence will account for the nine months Combs has already spent in custody and the additional time served while awaiting sentencing.
Had he been convicted of the more serious sex trafficking charges, Combs would have faced a mandatory minimum of 15 years per count—and potentially life in prison.
Now, with the verdicts finalized, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian will weigh both sides’ sentencing proposals before handing down the final decision, as reported by NBC News.
