Germany’s data protection commissioner has urged Apple (AAPL.O) and Google (GOOGL.O) to remove the Chinese AI firm DeepSeek from their app stores in Germany, citing data privacy concerns. The move follows similar regulatory actions in other countries.
In a statement released Friday, Commissioner Meike Kamp said the request was based on DeepSeek’s alleged illegal transfer of user data to China.
She added that both U.S. tech companies are now expected to review the request without delay and determine whether to restrict access to the app within Germany, although no specific deadline has been set by her office.
