What led to Gary Coleman’s death?
On May 26, 2010, Gary Coleman suffered a head injury after falling at his home in Santaquin, Utah. He was initially taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred that evening to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.
According to his ex-wife Shannon Price, the accident happened while Coleman was preparing food for her downstairs. “I was sick in bed,” she told Entertainment Tonight, “and then I heard a loud smack. I panicked—I didn’t know what to do or how serious it was.”
Coleman’s manager, John Alcantar, reported on the morning of May 28 that although Coleman had been alert the day before, his condition had worsened. He had slipped into a coma due to an intracranial hemorrhage and was placed on life support.
Gary Coleman passed away later that day, on May 28, at 12:05 p.m., after life support was withdrawn. He was 42 years old.
