Is There Anything Jonathan Bailey Can’t Do?
Not only does Jonathan Bailey star alongside Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali in Jurassic World: Rebirth, but he also made a surprising musical contribution to the film’s score.
During a June 25 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 37-year-old actor revealed that he performed a clarinet solo for composer Alexandre Desplat’s reimagining of John Williams’ classic Jurassic Park theme.
“This really was a highlight of my career,” Bailey said, describing the thrill of playing a part in such an iconic musical moment. “The nerd in me erupted like Vesuvius.”
Ironically, the opportunity wasn’t planned. At the time, Bailey was starring in Richard II in London’s West End and had only intended to stop by Abbey Road Studios with a friend to observe the 105-piece orchestra in action.
“I sat with my mate at the top just to watch, and got goosebumps,” he recalled. But as the week went on, he couldn’t resist asking if he could join in: “I came back and I was like, ‘Can I bring my clarinet?’ I played it in school.”
To his surprise, by Friday, the answer was yes.
Bailey didn’t just get to play a note—he ended up performing the theme for his character, Dr. Henry Loomis, which was woven into the film’s score.
His musical journey began in childhood, thanks to an unexpected gift. “I got given a plastic clarinet by my granddad, who I think won it in a pub,” he laughed. “And I started playing then.”
