Ethan Chapin’s Parents Share Relief Following Bryan Kohberger’s Plea Deal
After Bryan Kohberger accepted a plea agreement—admitting to the November 2022 murders of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves in exchange for removing the death penalty—Ethan’s parents say they’re ready to begin grieving privately.
“He’s going to face consequences,” Ethan’s father, Jim Chapin, told NBC News’ Liz Kreutz on Today July 14. “He’s off the streets and can’t hurt any more kids.”
Jim and his wife, Stacy—who are also parents to Ethan’s triplet siblings, Hunter and Maizie, now 22—say they’re at peace with the plea deal. Still, they recognize that others impacted by the tragedy may feel differently.
“Everyone has the right to grieve in their own way,” Stacy said. “But this is how we feel.”
