Most people focus on tax cuts when thinking about the House-passed budget reconciliation bill, but it would also bring the biggest changes to healthcare since the 2010 Affordable Care Act (ACA).
This bill stands in stark contrast to how the ACA was passed:
- President Trump hasn’t held any public forums on this massive bill.
- The Republican Congress hasn’t adopted any bipartisan amendments.
- Public support for the bill is limited.
The projected impacts of the two bills are also sharply different. Before its final votes, the ACA was projected to expand health coverage and reduce the national deficit. In contrast, the House-passed bill is currently expected to decrease health coverage and increase both the national deficit and debt, despite claims it will improve the budget.
