Michael Madsen’s Family Grieves His Sudden Passing as Sister Virginia Shares a Heartfelt Tribute
Following the unexpected death of Reservoir Dogs actor Michael Madsen, his sister Virginia Madsen has spoken out with an emotional message honoring his life.
Michael, 67, was found dead at his Malibu home on July 3. Just hours later, Virginia paid tribute in a moving statement to Variety, writing, “My brother Michael has left the stage. He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness. A poet disguised as an outlaw. A father, a son, a brother—etched in contradiction, tempered by love that left its mark.”
The Candyman star made it clear her grief went beyond losing a Hollywood icon—this was personal.
“We’re not mourning a public figure,” she continued. “We’re not mourning a myth—but flesh and blood and ferocious heart. Who stormed through life loud, brilliant, and half on fire. Who leaves us echoes—gruff, brilliant, unrepeatable—half legend, half lullaby.”
Though Michael became a celebrated figure in films like Kill Bill: Vol. 2, Virginia, 63, said she would always remember him as the vibrant, mischievous big brother she grew up with. He is survived by his seven children.
